YOU ARE @ GASHU.ORG - LO-FI FOR MOZ

Lo-Fi for Moz

What is this?

Here's comparison to panels of other www browsers. For my future referrence and paranoia thing.
( *There's no winner nor loser. )

Lo-Fi Classic vs Netscape 4.x

Height / Object Lo-Fi Classic Netscape 4.x
Menu Bar 23 px 20 px
1st Panel 26 px 27 px
2nd Panel 23 px 24 px
Total 72 px 71 px
  • comparison under Windows default appearance.
  • height includes border.
  • menu bar height doesn't include window title bar.
  • revision of lo-fi classic is 0.9.5.3.

Comment

You'll notice that lo-fi is 1px wider than netscape4.x and it is caused by menu bar height. But netscape4.x doesn't have grippy buttun on menu bar which mozilla does. That's why I don't reduce it. This lo-fi size is more consistent and whole impression is almost same as netscape4, I think. (Lo-fi's status bar is less than netscape4.x.)

Lo-Fi Classic vs Internet Viewer embedded in Microsoft Windows

Height / Object Lo-Fi Classic Internet Viewer
embedded in
Microsoft Windows
Menu Bar 23 px 25 px
1st Panel 26 px 26 px
2nd Panel 23 px 27 px
Total 72 px 78 px
  • comparison under Windows default appearance.
  • height includes border.
  • menu bar height doesn't include window title bar.
  • revision of lo-fi classic is 0.9.5.3.

Comment

All panels besides the 1st panel(tool bar) of lo-fi are less than Internet Viewer embedded in Microsoft Windows(yikes, I've forgotten its exact name...). Tool bar height is exactly same. Windows' one has its ad(throbber) on menu bar, so it's a little bit wider.

Lo-Fi Classic vs Opera6 (Unregistered)

You can get more functionalities like this:
  • comparison under Windows default appearance.
  • revision of lo-fi classic is 0.9.9.1.

Comment

Opera is also skinable. Maybe, its size depends on its skin.

Conclusion

There are also some other browsers in each platforms besides Windows. Although mozilla classic skin is an emulation of windows netscape4.x. So this comparison is meant to consider how netscape5 appearance should have been in windows platform which all the netscape4.x users might have upgraded even if it could have had XUL.
